Myofascial Massage & Myo-Manipulative Therapy
Massage therapy is increasingly recognized as an essential component in both the treatment and prevention of injury, as well as in supporting long-term comfort, mobility, and recovery in horses. It is widely used to address stiffness, muscular tension, edema, and post-exertional fatigue, and has become a valuable tool in ongoing maintenance programs for our equine partners.
While the benefits of massage are individual to each horse, they commonly include:
• Reduction of inflammation and muscular soreness
• Improved lymphatic drainage and reduction of edema
• Release of muscular tension and trigger points
• Decreased fatigue and improved recovery following work
• Separation and rehydration of muscle fibers
• Improved posture, balance, and movement efficiency
• Increased range of motion and joint comfort
• Improved muscle tone and tissue quality
• Enhanced circulation, allowing nutrients to reach tissues while assisting in the removal of metabolic waste
A Whole-Body, Integrative Approach
With specialized training in Myo-Manipulative Therapy, sessions go beyond isolated muscle work to address the horse as an interconnected system. Each session is guided by a full-body perspective, recognizing that pain or restriction in one area often originates elsewhere.

Your session may incorporate a combination of:
• Shiatsu-based massage techniques
• Gua Sha to support fascial release and circulation
• Myofascial release targeting connective tissue restrictions

Sessions also include a basic physical evaluation, which may involve postural observation, movement assessment, palpation findings, and a general lameness screening. When appropriate, a saddle fit assessment may also be included to identify contributing factors to discomfort or compensation patterns.
Session Investment
Initial Assessment & Treatment – $110 CAD
The initial appointment includes a comprehensive examination, hands-on palpation, detailed history review, and a basic lameness evaluation. This session allows adequate time to fully assess movement patterns, areas of restriction, and contributing factors, and typically lasts 1.5 to 2 hours.

Follow-Up / Re-Treatment Sessions – $80 CAD
Re-treatment sessions are designed to build upon findings from the initial assessment and focus on continued therapeutic support and progression.

How Myo-Manipulative Therapy Differs from Massage
While massage therapy is an excellent supportive modality that targets localized tension or soreness, Myo-Manipulative Therapy takes a more integrative approach. Rather than focusing solely on the site of discomfort, this therapy considers:
• Whole-body movement patterns
• Fascial and connective tissue continuity
• Meridian pathways and energetic balance
• Compensation and adaptation throughout the body

Fascia plays a critical role in how the body functions as a unit, connecting muscles, joints, and organs. Restrictions within the fascial system can affect movement, posture, and comfort far beyond the original site of tension. By addressing these connections, Myo-Manipulative Therapy aims to restore balance, improve function, and support the horse’s natural ability to move and heal efficiently.

This approach is especially beneficial for horses with chronic patterns, recurring soreness, performance limitations, or those needing a more comprehensive therapeutic strategy.
